LIGHT, AIR AND SPACE

Cornelis van Eesteren (Cor) (1897-1988) is the pioneer of modern architecture in the Netherlands. He is the generation mate of Le Corbusier. Cor was the Chairman of CIAM (International Congresses of Modern Architecture) from 1930 to 1947. One of his prominent works is the Amsterdam General Extension Plan which left its footprints until now in many parts of the city.

Last weekend, 22 April 2018, Van Eesteren Paviljoen in Amsterdam organized a presentation and a walk in the West of Amsterdam to learn about his works. I appreciated much of his thinking about rights of common citizens to light, air and space. Those elements are very essentials for quality of life and happiness of everyone and not only the happy few.
